Kentucky Poet Laureate to speak at Carmichael's
When
20 Nov 2013
7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Location
Carmichael's Bookstore - 2720 Frankfort Ave. - 896-6950
On Wednesday, November 20th at 7 PM, Carmichael's welcomes Kentucky poet laureate Frank X Walker for a reading from his new collection of poetry "Turn Me Loose : The Unghosting of Medgar Evers." Around the void left by the murder of Medgar Evers in 1963, the poems in this collection speak, unleashing the strong emotions both before and after the moment of assassination. Walker's poems take on the voices of Ever's widow, Myrlie; his brother, Charles; Beckwith's two wives. Except for "Turn me loose" - his final words and the book's title - Evers remains in this collection silent. Yet the poems accumulate facets of the love and hate with which others saw this man, unghosting him in a way that only imagination makes possible. Please join us!
